Explore India

Many people talk very fondly of India whenever they've visited this great country. The most common of compliments mainly revolves around the rich food, friendly people and incredible scenery and coastline. There's something for every traveller and buddying adventurer here, hundreds of thousands of miles of coastline mean there's beaches plentiful. The Himalayas dominate the northern topside of the country and the Western Ghats the southern and western side. So as well as beaches and coastline, you can also retreat into the mountains and enjoy a different varied type of scenery.

India is also home to a rich abundance of herbs, spices and ayurvedic traditions. It's therefore unsurprising that Indian food is bursting with flavour and vibrancy as many of these ingredients are sourced locally. Food is comparatively cheap compared to western prices, and it is never difficult to find a family restaurant in any village or town centre. India is embedded in a rich spiritual past where you can still meet the ancestors of tribes and indigenous people and embrace their local traditions, many of which are still practised today. Yoga retreats, camps and courses can be found scattered all over the country, another signature of India's spiritual and humble dwelling.

Like all countries in Asia the visa and entry requirements are constantly changing, so it is always worth checking with your local embassy prior to setting off, booking flights and planning your trip. The requirements for UK nationals had changed recently (June 2019) and they are able to get a 12 month visa for around 100 GBP ($120 USD or 8,900 RPS). This visa does permit the tourist to leave after 180 days (6 months) but then re-enter on the same visa. This was brought in to encourage more tourism to the country and needs to be purchased and authorised prior to entering the country. This is very easy and straightforward to do online as well as through an Indian embassy in your local country of residence. The vast majority of checkpoints throughout the country will validate the visa upon your arrival however, it is always worth checking prior to your arrival which checkpoint you will be entering the country through. As some land and sea borders may not offer this service.
